Water damage and the kitchen sink

The kitchen sink is one of the most often used but most of them collected parts of your home. Every day is piled high with dishes and filled with water but how often is it cleaned? How often is the sealant around sink repaired? How often is plumbing beneath the sink maintained? If the answer to any of these questions is not very often or never it may be time to take another look at your humble kitchen sink.

Common maintenance such as cleaning and sanitising the kitchen sink should be a regular occurrence in any home. The more often anything is used more often it becomes worn out or potentially damaged.

The caulking or sealant around your kitchen sink should be replenished every few years. This sealant breaks down over time and if not maintain will cause leaks to happen beneath the sink. Often these are not discovered early and can lead to the development of mould and mildew.

Because of its situation in your kitchen and the fact that the plumbing is in the way if you, the homeowner, do not set aside time to maintain the plumbing you may have a major issue on your hands.
